Howdy! I’m Scott Sheppard, and you’re inside my personal notes — a living, ever-changing collection of ideas. A lot of it is rough, half-baked, or incomplete, and that’s perfectly fine with me. I use the Zettelkasten method of note taking, which means everything is linked together in a web of small, interconnected notes. It might feel a little unusual at first, but it’s just how my brain works. The notes grow organically, like a healthy garden — take a look at Biodiversity Makes Gardens Thrive and Give your zettelkasten independence to get a feel for that mindset.

I’m a game designer, so I cast a wide net and am always learning (see Teaching to fish - Raph Koster for an example). You’ll find everything from deep dives into game mechanics and theory to seemingly random fragments. That variety is part of what makes it fun. Feel free to browse around, follow whatever catches your eye, or just dip in and out. No pressure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A few notes I particularly enjoy:

If you’d like to get in touch, email me at scott.sheppard@hey.com. I’m rarely on X at @wScottSh, but you can also check out my YouTube channel at The Austin School of Game Design. Poke around — everything here is happily a work in progress.
