A teacher's value isn't in teaching

The value of teaching is not necessarily obvious when we realize how important it is for the learner (Conceptually conversing with the world) to do the learning, as opposed to the teacher doing the teaching.

On a cursory level, it seems that teachers have value in three main areas.

  1. A teacher sparks interest ((Actionable Gamification #citation) - p.41) in a topic that a student might not have interest in previously.
  2. A teacher acts as a mentor/guide, and imparts their wisdom (Chris Crawford conversation model) to the student, helping them make connections (Zettelkasten method of note taking) where the student isn't (Differences that don't make a difference) making them themselves. (This is elaborated // Conversations keep learners engaged)
  3. A teacher curates, reorganizes, elaborates (Zettelkasten method of note taking) and publishes their findings so books and other kinds of media can be studied by future students of the subject.
