"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is a 2003 action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Serving as a reboot of the original series, the game was released across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, and Windows.

The narrative centers on an unnamed Prince who, following his father's conquest of an ancient city, acquires the mystical Dagger of Time. Unwittingly manipulated by a treacherous Vizier, the Prince releases the Sands of Time, transforming the inhabitants of the Sultan's palace into monstrous creatures. Joined by Farah, a knowledgeable princess, the Prince embarks on a quest to rectify his mistake and thwart the Vizier's nefarious ambitions.

Gameplay emphasizes the Prince's acrobatic prowess, enabling players to navigate complex environments through running, jumping, and wall-scaling. A distinctive feature is the Dagger of Time, which allows players to manipulate time—rewinding to correct errors, slowing time to gain combat advantages, and freezing adversaries. This mechanic introduces a strategic layer to both platforming and combat sequences.

The game's development commenced in 2001 after Ubisoft acquired the "Prince of Persia" franchise. Jordan Mechner, the original creator, was brought on board as a creative consultant, designer, and scenario writer, ensuring the reboot honored the essence of the original series while introducing innovative gameplay elements.

Upon release, "The Sands of Time" received critical acclaim for its engaging storyline, fluid animation, and the innovative time-manipulation mechanics. Although initial sales were modest, the game eventually achieved commercial success, selling over 14 million copies worldwide by 2014. Its popularity revitalized the "Prince of Persia" franchise, leading to sequels such as "Warrior Within" and "The Two Thrones," and solidifying its status as a seminal title in the action-adventure genre.
