The Power Law is a phenomenon discussed in statistics, found across many domains. It's represented by a graph with an extremely tall head, and a really long tail (Long Tail Concept in Markets Explained). See the image on Wikipedia. It's called a power law because the relationship between two numbers is not linear, but a power (being raised to the power of).

"Power Law" is the technical term for the 80-20 rule, or the pareto principle (Pareto Principle).

Examples of power laws can be seen in wide areas, such as the size of craters on the moon, the number of subscribers on YouTube, popularity of songs, items purchased on Amazon, and many more.

It represents that there are a few things that are note worthy and capture our attention on a broad scale. And then there are a much greater number of things that don't gather nearly as much attention.
