In Alma 30:44, Korihor asks for a sign from heaven. Alma responds that - among the testimonies of the scriptures and prophets - the Earth itself is also a sign.
By savoring the world, we consciously come closer to God and can strengthen our testimony (Testimony is knowing, conversion is doing) of Him.
