Learning one skill grows others too

While studying Come Follow Me today, I came across a quote that talks about how when we pursue one Christlike attribute, we simultaneously learn tangential skills. When working on a focused skill, we pick up other skills in the periphery.

This is a life lesson that rings true in more than one context. When we focus on one particular skill, we must inherently apply previously learned skills as well as enacting new ones that are required for applying the new focus.

For example, when focusing on finding a job, we must also learn how to communicate well through written and spoken word. We must learn negotiation skills. We need to learn to do good research. Each one of these could be a focus on its own, but we pick them up in the context of a job search.

This is my favorite things about how (Breath of the Wild) works. Because we can do the right things the wrong way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LdenlAKb2g) (due to its systems), we are always picking up side skills along the way.

[1]: “The attributes of the Savior … are interwoven characteristics, added one to another, which develop in us in interactive ways. In other words, we cannot obtain one Christlike characteristic without also obtaining and influencing others. As one characteristic becomes strong, so do many more”
